King James Version
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house,
thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife,
nor his manservant, nor his maidservant,
nor his ox, nor his ass,
nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
China is not known for respecting intellectual property rights.
That I've known since my American Chamber days in the late 80s.
This article was inspired by a 10-minute video I saw today, but was produced eight months ago.
World Bank director Eric Bethel mentioned how General Motors' "Spark" was copied by China's Chery Automobile Co. Ltd.
World Bank Director: "I Saw the Craziest Things in China"
To be precise, he pointed out the one-letter difference.
Chevy versus Chery.
But that's what China's known for.
Copying fast.
Selling fast.
Making profits fast.
My own country alone has been a "dumping" ground of such copies.
No thanks to our proximity to China.
I actually inspected a real Chery car, when it first showed up.
It had cool colors, and was being sold at a low price.
It had dual transmission, and you can pay for it daily.
I just wondered if it can climb my hilly city with ease.
Of course, I had no idea General Motors was upset.
Seems, Chery had "reverse-engineered" the GM "Spark".
From the same video, Bethel also made the following statements regarding China's lack of "moral core", business-wise:
"If it's not bolted down, they're just gonna take it."
"If you're untethered from any sort of moral core, you'll do anything to become successful, powerful"
"You're looking at just 1.4-B people just out to make it."
Just to be clear about this "invisible war", Bethel says:
"We're not fighting the Chinese people, we're fighting the Chinese Communist Party. And they mean to take us out."
-- "We're in an Invisible War" - Erik Bethel on the CCP's Strategies for Achieving Global Dominance
Since my American Chamber days in the late 80s, I've come across reports, and complaints, how China hasn't respected American intellectual property rights.
So much so, we had a committee looking into that.
China doesn't care the impression it gets.
Like, if it's cheap, it's got to have come from China.
If it's copied, it's definitely from China.
Of course, that creates chaos in business.
But fast sales for China.
As well as a reputation for stuff that doesn't "endure".
How would you feel if your "inventions" are copied to the "last rivet"?
Yes, the Chinese people are smart.
They're hardworking.
And yes, they're overworked.
And underpaid.
They live under communism.
Their strength is in numbers.
Once, they had a one-child policy.
A preference for male children, in fact.
Now, they regret it, for their aging population.
Still, the copying goes on.
And now, copying has gone digital, and dangerous.
Just try getting a China-made phone, and you'll see.
You may just lose files.
Or maybe your whole files may be wiped out.
You will constantly be spied upon.
Imagine if you did banking on it.
To this day, I'm not hot about face recognition, fingerprint unlocks, and any so-called secure password.
China, like other competitive countries, can unlock it all.
Patricia McGee has a 2025 book, "Apple in China".
She reveals how Tim Cook's Apple Inc. has strengthened China's economy by building iPhones there.
To my common-sense mind, that's like "doing it to yourself".
Being in the "dragon's den", and all.
I still don't see the logic to it.
Cheaper labor?
Cheaper tech?
At what cost?
But I'm not a businessman.
I'm a born again watchman.
I "expose evil".
I "call out the errors".
I tell you of GOD's "commands".
Satan was a copycat.
Why do we need to be like him?
Why do we need to copy?
Don't we have original ideas?
China must stop copying.
She's got great talent from her people.
She must QUIT copying.
She must have respect for the work of others.
She can show the world she can be original, too.
She's an ancient civilization, with a rich culture.
Why does she need to copy?
GOD did say:
Genesis 1:26-28
King James Version
26 And God said,
Let us make man in our image,
after our likeness:
and let them have dominion
over the fish of the sea,
and over the fowl of the air,
and over the cattle,
and over all the earth,
and over every creeping thing
that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God created he him;
male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them,
and God said unto them,
Be fruitful, and multiply,
and replenish the earth, and subdue it:
and have dominion over the fish of the sea,
and over the fowl of the air,
and over every living thing
that moveth upon the earth.
If GOD created us in Their "image', then we all have a lot going for each one of us.
He said to have "dominion" over everything that "creepeth" and "moveth" upon the earth.
But He didn't say to "steal:
Exodus 20:15
King James Version
15 Thou shalt not steal.
