AMERICA and IRELAND

Psalm 97:11

King James Version

11 Light is sown for the righteous,

and gladness for the upright in heart.

It's so refreshing to see a foreign prime minister be so respectful of the American president.

This, we witnessed, at the recent visit of Micheál Martin, Ireland's prime minister.

He had a wonderful exchange with president Trump six days ago.

He also acknowledged Trump's personal investment in Ireland, for the president did say he owned several properties in the Emerald Isle.

"You have the distinction of being the only president

to have invested in Ireland."

-- Irish pm Micheál Martin

America and Ireland have a long history together.

"According to the governments of the United States and Ireland, relations have long been based on common ancestral ties and shared values.[1][2] Besides regular dialogue on political and economic issues, the U.S. and Irish governments have official exchanges in areas such as medical research and education."

"Half of the Irish immigrants to the United States in its colonial era (1607–1775) came from the Irish province of Ulster, while the other half came from the other three provinces (Leinster, Munster and Connacht)."

"The Scots-Irish were some of the first settlers in the 13 colonies and played an important role in The War of Independence, as well as being some of the first cattle drivers in North America. The Irish exerted their own influence inside the United States, particularly through Democratic Party politics."

Interestingly, there seems to be some affinity between Ireland and Palestine, in sharp contrast to the close relationship between the United States and Israel.

How they will reconcile that, only these leaders would know.

Both world leaders met before St. Patrick's Day.

The significance of that day?

"Saint Patrick's Day was made an official Christian feast day in the early 17th century and is observed by the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion (especially the Church of Ireland),[7] the Eastern Orthodox Church, and the Lutheran Church. The day commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, and, by extension, celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish in general."

Also, when you think of Ireland in America, you think of the NYPD cops.

"One of the enduring images of the New York Irish community is their representation in the New York City Police Department."

"Irish immigrant transit workers viewed employment with the New York police and fire departments as a step up the ladder of success."

-- Hugh E. O'Rourke, 2001,

The New York Irish and the Police -

Will the Tradition Continue?"

Interestingly, president Trump's mother, Mary Anne MacLeod Trump, also spoke Scottish Gaelic.

Surely, president Trump wouldn't have bought property in Ireland if he didn't find the country beautiful, and a worthwhile investment.
