What EATS people up

Proverbs 21:4

King James Version

4 An high look, and a proud heart,

and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.

I wanted to write about CHRIST's crucifixion today.

Checking all four gospels, for precious nuggets of truth.

That I could better understand what the LORD JESUS went through.

I prayed for more guidance, that I'd get it "right".

For there was a VOLUME of material presenting itself before me.

Which one to write about first?

And yet, it all turned out a bit differently today.

Apparently, SPIRIT wanted me to focus on a certain aspect.

On something ESPECIALLY "striking", and "revelatory" --

"Why people did what they did to JESUS."

What ate them up?

What got them all riled up?

What made them "murderous"?

Who was responsible for it?

The gospels revealed it, for sure.

Pilate found NO fault in JESUS.

But the multitude made "claims".

That includes the chief priests, elders, and people.

All because they wanted the LORD, crucified.

Still, Pilate asked them what they had against JESUS.

So, it will all be on "record".

He did "wash his hands" of it.

Matthew 27:23

King James Version

23 And the governor said,

Why, what evil hath he done?

But they cried out the more, saying,

Let him be crucified.

Mark 15:14

King James Version

14 Then Pilate said unto them,

Why, what evil hath he done?

And they cried out the more exceedingly,

Crucify him.

Luke 23:1-2

King James Version

23 And the whole multitude of them arose,

and led him unto Pilate.

2 And they began to accuse him, saying,

We found this fellow perverting the nation,

and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar,

saying that he himself is Christ a King.

Luke 23:4-5

King James Version

4 Then said Pilate to the chief priests

and to the people, I find no fault in this man.

5 And they were the more fierce, saying,

He stirreth up the people,

teaching throughout all Jewry,

beginning from Galilee to this place.

John 19:7-8

King James Version

7 The Jews answered him,

We have a law, and by our law he ought to die,

because he made himself the Son of God.

8 When Pilate therefore heard that saying,

he was the more afraid;

The people seemed to have forgotten His healings, and teachings.

They clamored JESUS be crucified.

They let Barabbas go, but had JESUS crucified.

Why did they hate him so?

Was it for those claims?

Was it from ignorance?

Or for something else?

Perhaps, from "someone" else?

Were they thinking right?

Or were their minds being "influenced"?

If so, "who" got into their brain?

Who got into their hearts?

Who infiltrated their souls?

Leave it to SPIRIT to zero in on the matter.

Here's what He showed me today:

Matthew 27:17-18

King James Version

17 Therefore when they were gathered together,

Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you?

Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?

18 For he knew that for envy

they had delivered him.

Mark 15:9-10

King James Version

9 But Pilate answered them, saying,

Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

10 For he knew that the chief priests

had delivered him for envy.

Ah, "envy".

The green-eyed monster.

The one that disturbs all thinking.

The one that distorts all truth.

The one that aims to destroy another.

The one that brings chaos; not peace.

The one that lives fully in man.

The one that eats up his soul.

The perpetrator?

"Chief" of envy.

Satan, of course.

He wanted GOD's Throne:

Isaiah 14:12-14

King James Version

12 How art thou fallen from heaven,

O Lucifer, son of the morning!

how art thou cut down to the ground,

which didst weaken the nations!

13 For thou hast said in thine heart,

I will ascend into heaven,

I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:

I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation,

in the sides of the north:

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;

I will be like the most High.

The result?

Isaiah 14:15

King James Version

15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell,

to the sides of the pit.

If he could not have it, then he'll "work" through man.

Corrupting them, as he did.

He caused Adam's downfall, through Eve.

And then he learns of JESUS.

The Beloved SON.

The prophesied MESSIAH.

By now, his rage knows no bounds.

Can you imagine his anger, and  envy?

Can you imagine how that ate him up?

In response, he got to Herod, trying to do away with the baby JESUS.

He tried sabotaging everything JESUS did.

He tempted Him, persecuted Him, mocked Him -- to no avail.

All events led to the CROSS.

And that's when GOD's will was fulfilled.

JESUS was to save, minister, be crucified, and be resurrected.

All according to GOD's plan of salvation.

That all who believe in His SON, may be saved.

We'll point out THREE things here:

1. Merriam-Webster defines "envy" this way:

"painful or resentful awareness of an advantage enjoyed by another joined with a desire to possess the same advantage"

2. A synonym for "envy" is "jealousy":

"a painful awareness of another's possessions or advantages and a desire to have them too"

3. Know the "spirit" behind wars:

James 4:1-2

King James Version

4 From whence come wars

and fightings among you?

come they not hence, even of your lusts

that war in your members?

2 Ye lust, and have not:

ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain:

ye fight and war, yet ye have not,

because ye ask not.

NOTICE the similarities?

"a desire to possess the same advantage"

"a desire to have them too"

"desire to have"

It's all about the "desire" to have, and posses.

Something another has, you want to have for yourself.

The very thing that ate Lucifer up, consuming him.

It's that covetousness that creates envy, rage, and murder.

But what does the Bible say about "covetousness"?

Colossians 3:5

King James Version

5 Mortify therefore your members

which are upon the earth;

fornication, uncleanness,

inordinate affection, evil concupiscence,

and covetousness, which is idolatry:

What was GOD's law against "covetousness"?

Exodus 20:17

King James Version

17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house,

thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife,

nor his manservant, nor his maidservant,

nor his ox, nor his ass,

nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

A covetous person becomes greedy.

He wants what others have.

He becomes envious.

He becomes blinded by greed.

You know how GOD hates covetousness, and idolatry.

All these, CHRIST's enemy fuels in us.

But there's a solution.

When GOD makes you born again, all ego falls away.

There's no room for envy, vanity, or idolatry.

You will have no desire to acquire, or possess.

You will only focus on CHRIST.

You will have His peace.

Where there's peace, there's contentment.

Where there's JESUS, there's "completion".

Colossians 2:10

King James Version

10 And ye are complete in him,

which is the head

of all principality and power:
